Message from the Head of Department — Mass Communication
School of Arts & Humanities, Xavier University, Patna
In an era when communication defines the very contours of human society, the study of media is not merely an academic pursuit but a profound engagement with the forces that shape culture, politics, economy, and consciousness. The media is no longer a mirror alone; it is a maker of realities, a catalyst of change, and at times, a site of contestation. To study mass communication, therefore, is to participate in decoding narratives, understanding power, and reimagining the possibilities of human connection.
At Xavier University, our department is dedicated to cultivating reflective practitioners and critical thinkers. We encourage our students not only to acquire professional competencies in journalism, digital media, advertising, public relations, and film, but also to interrogate the ethical, cultural, and philosophical dimensions of media practice.
Our aim is to prepare graduates who are not just industry-ready but socially responsible—individuals who recognize that every message carries an implication for democracy, justice, and human dignity. We provide a learning environment where creativity meets critique, where technology is harnessed without losing sight of humanity, and where each student is empowered to find their voice and contribute meaningfully to society.
Through our curriculum, research endeavours, cultural activities, and industry collaborations, we strive to create a vibrant intellectual community committed to excellence and innovation. I invite you to explore our programs, participate in our initiatives, and join us in shaping a future where communication becomes a bridge—uniting communities, inspiring change, and fostering a more inclusive and informed world.
Warm regards,
Mr Vikas Kumar
