Message from the Head of Department — Economics

In today’s world, economics is not only the study of wealth, resources, and growth but also a lens through which we understand society, human behaviour, and the choices that shape our collective future. Far beyond numbers and equations, economics engages deeply with questions of equity, sustainability, governance, and human well-being. To study economics is to explore the dynamics of power and policy, to analyse challenges at local and global levels, and to imagine pathways toward a more just and prosperous world.

At Xavier University, our department is dedicated to cultivating critical thinkers, reflective practitioners, and ethical leaders. We encourage students not only to develop technical and analytical expertise in areas such as microeconomics, macroeconomics, econometrics, development studies, and finance, but also to reflect on the ethical, social, and environmental dimensions of economic decision-making.
